Belvoir Vue, Belvoir Valley

The forward-thinking Client purchased this Brown Field site with the benefit of Outline Planning Approval to extend a vandalised and derelict 1960’s bungalow. The architectural concept was to create a modern design, to sit within the landscape, allowing views over the Belvoir Valley. The ambition was to work within the Planning parameters, liaising closely with the Planning Officer through the design development, to take advantage of the panoramic views over the Belvoir Valley, add visual impact to the long country lane and integrate a contemporary design solution. The design brief was required to offer flexible, secure but functional spaces, over two floors accessed by a central feature staircase. This entrance reception hall also acts as a showcase for the racing motorbike and circulation to all the surrounding spaces. The overall concept required a palette of clean-line internal individual spaces so that the furniture, fabrics and other finishes could add colour and individuality. The perimeter lightweight glazing allows natural light to penetrate deep into the spaces, enhancing and changing the daily tapestry of colour. External balconies encourage users to enjoy the transition of internal/external landscaped spaces allowing clear views over the water feature and beyond. Wildlife is encouraged onto the site and, with the inclusion of bat boxes built into the façade, to maintain their presence. Energy efficiency was a key driver and is successfully integrated within the design detailing to minimise running costs using sustainable and robust materials. The Client was the Project Manager for the works and this ensured consistency of quality of materials, workmanship and cost control.
