Christ Church is a Grade II Listed Methodist and United Reformed Church situated in the heart of Grantham, and CBP Architects were commissioned to develop a design for adapting and extending the non-worship areas facing the rear courtyard, to facilitate a flexible community space that is accessible for all. The brief was to provide, flexible multi-purpose rooms, additional toilet facilities, new kitchen, heritage centre, store room, and a covered link between the church and the adjacent Shepherds Hall.

Working closely with the Methodist Church and the LBAC as part of the statutory consultation process, careful attention to detail was given to design intent, material, impact on the historic fabric, and context & setting. CBP also engaged with the Church Council to present the options, and to understand their primary needs and requirements as part of the design process. The proposed scheme of adaptation and a bespoke courtyard pod was successfully received and approved up to RIBA stage 3.
