Located in London across from St Pancras, the Francis Crick Institute is one of Europe’s largest and most advanced biomedical research centres, and CBP Architects played a leading role as CDM Principal Designer for the 8th Floor SkyLab Extension. The brief was to provide additional office space for 100 researchers together with associated laboratory spaces, meeting rooms, toilet blocks, and breakout spaces to create a self-contained biomedical research hub.
The project presented several logistical challenges in the construction of the 8th floor extension, due to site constraints and the practicalities of safe access on to the roof to form the new structure. Through fastidious planning, managing and monitoring of the pre-construction phase and ongoing health & safety co-ordination with the wider design team during RIBA stage 5, CBP Architects were pivotal in the delivery of the Crick’s latest biomedical research facility.
